Have you ever been apple picking? What are you looking for in an apple? Crispiness, sweetness, color, size, or simply one without bruises? Or does it depend on what you will use it for? Baking, eating, or making cider? I recently went apple picking and I didn’t pick the small ones, couldn’t pick the ones high in the tree, and didn’t want the ones that had fallen on the ground. I thought, “I’m glad this isn’t how God chooses us.” But is this how we choose to show God’s love and patience? I know patience is a daily struggle for me with some of my co-workers and yet there are others that I am patient with time and time again. But as frustration builds with a few, I’m reminded of the fruit of the Spirit which includes love and patience and also of 1 John 4:8 which states, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” It is only through our loving Father that we can continue to show love and patience. How important it is to be in God’s Word daily to be equipped to show the mercy he’s given each of us. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
