Our heavenly father invites us to bring to him all our cares, our concerns, our joys, and our sorrows. Prayer is one of the many privileges we share as redeemed daughters of Christ ~ though how often do we save prayer as a last resort, when all else has failed? How often do we think that our problems are not important enough to trouble God with? He tells us
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6
As women, we are busy with home, family, and work. It is hard to find time to spend in prayer as there is always laundry to be done and floors to be cleaned. It is imperative, however, that we make the time to spend in conversation with God - on our behalf, and on the behalf of others.
"God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times..." Romans 1:9-10a
Your prayers may be the most valuable support you can give to mission work and those who carry it out. You may never meet the missionaries who go on your behalf to far away places, but you can and should lift them up regularly in your prayers.
"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
One way you can help organize your prayer life is through the LWMS Prayer Calendar. In it you will find monthly greetings from home and world missionaries and members of mission congregations. Missionary birthdays, prayer reminders, and maps of home and world missions are also included.
Other ways to focus your prayers are: to visit the "Mission News" section of our Web site, and pray for the missions highlighted each month; read the "Woman to Woman" devotions that include a prayer for missions; pray for the Board of Directors as they meet to discuss the business of the LWMS.
Remember to fully take hold of this blessing that is ours through Jesus everyday.
"You will pray to him, and he will hear you..." Job 22:27a
