Highlights from the 2011 LWMS Fall Board Meeting
The LWMS Board of Directors (BD) and Central Office staff met at the Winston-Salem Marriott in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on November 9-12, 2011. The BD met with Convention Planner Kathy Kolander and the Co-chairs and Committee chairs of the upcoming convention in 2012. The group also toured the convention facilities.
Pastor Brady Coleman led the BD in Bible studies on guilt, trust and forgiveness.
LWMS membership stands at 873 congregations and 4 individual members. The BD welcomed the following new members:

Shepherd of the Lakes Land O’Lakes, FL Tampa Bay Circuit
Eileen Skoglund Clara City, MN Individual Member
The Bylaws Committee presented four proposed bylaws amendments for voter approval at the convention in 2012.
The Communications Committee is working on the 2012-2013 Missions Projects booklet and the Convention Newsletter.
The LWMS Awareness Committee has met via teleconference and has a face-to-face meeting set for January 2012. The committee presented the following as their purpose: As our Lord commanded us, his disciples, to go into the world and spread the good news of salvation to all, the leaders and members of the Lutheran Women’s Mission Society (LWMS) work to support mission work through the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Recognizing that the organization can only be as strong as its members, the LWMS Board of Directors has assigned the LWMS Awareness Committee to do as follows:
Suggest and develop ways to help maintain member retention.
Suggest and develop ways to promote LWMS to member congregations, non-member congregations and other special groups.
Provide the Board of Directors with long-range goals for the organization and suggest ways to carry out these goals.
Assist circuits in LWMS outreach activities within the area.
The BD voted to move Central Office to a new location. The new address is: 11200 W. Greenfield Avenue, West Allis, WI 53214-2240.
The BD added an additional general session speaker to the convention schedule.
The BD chose the 2012-2013 kids c.a.r.e. project.
The BD approved a general design for the convention in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2013. They also approved having a year-long celebration of 50 years of LWMS starting at the 50th Annual Convention in 2013 and culminating at the 51st Annual Convention in 2014.
The BD approved adding the Michigan and Minnesota flags to the LWMS flag presentation. This decision was based on a request from Dr. John Lawrenz following the last convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
