Important Details About the Convention Hotel

We, the Board of Directors, are excited to be heading to the heart of Florida for the 54th Annual LWMS Convention to explore “Around the World of Missions” at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, an outstanding hotel on International Drive.

Because we are conscious of the wishes and needs of some of our seasoned attendees, the board selected the Hyatt Regency Orlando based upon the availability of a ballroom with minimal walking from the hotel elevators. However, the hotel recently had the opportunity to book another event that required ballroom space during the dates of our convention. In order to book this event, they moved our program to a different meeting space without our permission. The newly-assigned meeting space is a longer walk from the sleeping rooms of the hotel. Despite our best efforts, the hotel will not honor our contract for the original space, and securing another location at this late date is not feasible. That’s the bad news.

There are good things to share! First, the hotel is an awesome property. The new space is wonderful, and there will be less walk-through traffic by outsiders. Second, the meeting space is very compact, meaning once you get to the convention area, the general session, workshop, and meal spaces are all together, plus the walk is flat, carpeted, wide, and air conditioned! Third, the hotel realizes they have placed a burden on us. To accommodate us they will drive golf carts for a section of the walk for those unable to manage the entire way.

The Board of Directors and the local convention committee recently visited the Hyatt Regency Orlando and we believe that most of our attendees can easily make the 500-foot stroll while those with walking concerns can be assisted by the golf cart shuttles. If you do have further concerns, we suggest you rent a scooter, which can easily be done in Orlando. For example, check out www.floridamobilityrentals.com for pricing, or google “scooter rental Orlando” for a wide variety of suppliers who will deliver directly to your hotel.

We do our best to honor the wishes of our attendees and are disappointed with the longer-than-anticipated walk, but we are excited by the venue, speakers, and programs selected for the convention. We hope that with this information in advance, you can plan ahead and not be deterred from attending the convention.

Thank you!

Travel

Airport

The hotel does not operate an airport shuttle. Information on ground transportation options and directions will be included with your convention confirmation. If flying, use the Orlando International Airport (MCO). Allegiant Air flies into Orlando/Sanford (SFB), but a shuttle from there is much more expensive. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is about 13 miles from Hyatt Regency Orlando.
