In Memory of
Josephine “Jo” Myers

Benton Harbor, Michigan
Past LWMS President
March 19, 1921 – December 23, 2010

Josephine “Jo” Myers served as the second president of LWMS from 1969 to 1973. Jo’s pastor who served on the LWMS Board of Directors observed Jo’s love for missions and service and encouraged her to become active in LWMS. She did not have children, but loved her nieces and nephews as her own. As a youth her nephew and Godson Dennis Belter mowed her lawn, and she always rewarded him generously. She encouraged him to “study hard otherwise you will not be able to do anything except clean toilets.” She was a very gracious hostess who invited guests frequently to her home. She wanted everything to be done “right and well, and in a God-pleasing manner.” She loved her cats, dogs, and her Lord. Jo encouraged nephew Dennis Belter to become a pastor who serves now at Riverview Lutheran Church, Appleton, Wisconsin.

In later years, Jo and her husband Dean, who preceded her in death, wintered in Florida. After suffering health problems in recent years, she lived in a nursing home in St. Joseph, Michigan. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph.

Thank you to Jo Myers and all the past presidents of LWMS.
