A Taste of Heaven

"..from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb."Rev. 7:9

Sisters and brothers from 33 church bodies around the world who are in fellowship with WELS and ELS met in New Ulm, Minnesota, June 4 to 6 for the triennial convention of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (CELC). Jackie Hieb and Paula Danekas represented the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS). They were asked by many of the  participants how women can get involved in the work of the church. Being able to meet national workers from the fields where WELS and LWMS supports mission work was truly an inspiration and blessing. The next CELC convention, Lord willing, will be in Lima, Peru in 2014.

Having many nations, languages, and people gather together is a taste of what we have to look forward to as we approach the gates of heaven.  WELS mission lovers had another taste of heaven when they met June 23 to 26 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the 48th Annual LWMS Convention. Over 1500 voices praised God during the opening worship service. Throughout the convention God was praised in many languages by representatives from many cultures. All attendees were enriched and encouraged by sharing time with people from Africa, Asia, and North, Central, and South America.

Men and women who support WELS missions plan to gather in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in June of 2012.
