"For, he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight."  Ephesians 1:4

When I was in America for my daughter’s wedding, I made a side trip from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Little Rock, Arkansas.  I had purchased an e-ticket, in advance, using my credit card.  My son-in-law drove me to Chicago Midway and from there I would go to St. Louis, transfer flights and then on to Little Rock.  All seemed well planned.  I went to the check-in counter at Midway, check my one piece of luggage and got my boarding pass that guaranteed me seat on the plane.  When that was done, the clerk smiled and asked if I would mind stepping down to the end of the counter.  “No problem,” I said.  She then told me that I had been “Randomly” chosen for a security search.  That was no problem either, and I was actually pleased that they were so concerned about security.

After waiting for quite some time for a delayed flight, my section was called to board.  As I was ready to walk through the gate I heard, “Excuse me madam, we are sorry to have to do this, but you have been selected for a random security check.”  I smiled and said, “No problem.”  I took off my shoes, held out my arms and was searched.  Then I heard, “Thank you, we appreciate your cooperation, you may board now.  Have a pleasant trip.”  When I transferred flights in St. Louis, the same thing happened when I was about to board.  On that flight I sat next to a flight attendant who was off duty and on holiday.  I related to him my story and the random security checks at which he said, “Oh you weren’t randomly chosen; were chosen because you only had a one-way ticket.”

We all have another “one-way-ticket”; we could also call an e-ticket – a ticket to eternity.  This ticket has been purchased for us, not by our own payment of cash, check or credit card, but through the suffering and death of our Pilot, the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  God’s plan of providing our one-way ticket is a perfect plan.  God himself will personally hand our boarding pass for this one-way trip to us as we enter the boarding gate to heaven.  Our seat will be at the right hand of God, and God himself has guaranteed this seat.  He has personally prepared it for us.  We have not been randomly chosen, but as Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:4,”He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”  God had a place picked for us even before we were born, yes, even before the creation of the world.  He chose us not because we would be blameless and holy here on this earth, but because he knew that through Christ we sinners would be accepted as being perfect and righteous before him.

Let us always remember that God’s plan for our salvation and our trip to heaven began before the beginning of time.  May we live our praise to God, all our lives.

Almighty God, who laid the foundations of the earth and created all things, in your foreknowledge knew that we humans, the highest of all your creation, would turn against you. Yet, in your love and mercy you planned our salvation.  You planned that through your dear son we sinners would become holy and blameless in your sight.  Keep us in your grace as we travel through this sinful world to our home in heaven.  We pray in Jesus’ name, who purchased the ticket with his blood and assures us that we will arrive home to be with you for eternity.  Amen
