Campus Ministry Enrichment in Stevens Point, Wisconsin - Rev. James Roecker
Campus ministry has always been an integral part of ministry at Divine Word Lutheran Church in Plover, Wisconsin. In the past five years, the church leaders made plans to enrich this portion of their ministry with the help of a second called pastor who would minister to college students and oversee outreach. This presentation covers the history of campus ministry in Plover and how it has been enriched today in Stevens Point within the multi-site concept. Blessings and challenges have been part of this exciting ministry that God has richly blessed with his grace and mercy.

God’s Bilingual House - Rev. Philip Hunter
Bethel means “God’s house” and over the past 15 years Bethel Lutheran Church in Menasha, Wisconsin, has been transformed into a bilingual house of God. Pastor Philip Hunter shepherds the souls of this congregation every week in two languages. He will take you on a tour of the chapel, the kitchen, adult and preschool classrooms, the new great room, and the renovated family room. In every room you will see multicultural families gathering around God’s Word, working together on the congregation’s common goal—to connect people with Christ and each other through clear gospel ministry in English and Spanish.

Mission Journeys - Shannon Bohme
Mission Journeys is a new short-term mission program of WELS which will send teams from congregations to world and home mission fields. After training for the mission trips, the teams will partner with mission fields to assist in outreach activities. The teams will take their experiences back home with them to lead an outreach event for their own congregations. Mission Journeys hopes to inspire an outreach and evangelism movement while connecting WELS members to missions.

125 Years of Grace in Apacheland - Rev. Kirk Massey, Jr., and Rev. Gary Lupe
In this presentation, experience the amazing grace and mercy the Lord has given to the “Eagles of the Southwest.” Learn about the early beginnings of missionaries and their gospel work among the people of the San Carlos and White Mountain Apache Nations. Hear about the gospel taught in the mission schools and the impact the Good News has had on the lives of the people. Learn about the strategies the Apache Christian Training School has used to train native pastors, teachers, evangelists, and lay leaders to take the gospel across the reservations. Finally, hear about plans being developed as the Apache Christians begin to explore beyond their borders to share the Good News with other Native Americans.

Workshop presenters

Bringing Christ’s Light to Campus – Rev. Charles Vannieuwenhoven
College years are an important time in the lives of our Christian young people. Students are often faced with many new choices, not all God-pleasing. For the first time many students are making decisions for themselves. They are creating habits and priorities that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. The devil is doing all he can to lead these young Christians away from their Savior. We have an important ministry to keep them connected to their Savior through these difficult years. Pastor Vannieuwenhoven will share what we are doing as a synod to reach out to college students and how workshop participants can take part in this important ministry in their home congregations.

Intercultural Assimilation: From the Minority to the Majority – Rev. Timothy Flunker, WELS Hispanic Outreach Consultant
We are living in a completely multicultural reality in the United States. Do our congregations reflect that reality? As the WELS Hispanic Outreach Consultant, Missionary Tim Flunker will address the specific barriers that exist as we look to reach out into our neighborhoods. He will then offer several ways to overcome those barriers so that the Lord may bless the spread of his gospel to all people.

Early Childhood Education as a Bridge to Jesus - Rev. Zachary Gebert
Early childhood centers are all the rage among North American Christian Churches, but are they worth it? What does it take to turn the Early Childhood Education Centers (ECEC) from strictly a business to a ministry? This workshop will use stories from the staff and families at Our Shepherd Childcare and Family Ministry in Appleton, Wisconsin, to explore strategies that have and have not worked for leveraging ECEC as a ministry tool. Additionally, we will do some creative problem solving and collaborating to develop strategies for ECEC outreach.

Ignite: A Passion for Missions – LWMS Awareness Committee
YOU are our number one advocate for missions in your congregations! At this workshop, new ideas and initiatives will be presented to help you share your passion for missions and spark a burning interest in LWMS woman-to-woman in your home congregation and in the non-LWMS member congregations of your area. You will also gain valuable information on how to use digital resources to
your advantage such as downloading available files from the LWMS website, producing high quality fliers and handouts, and using social media. The workshop is open to everyone. Reporters and circuit officers will not want to miss it! Let’s fill the room to standing room only!

Moments with Our Missionary Wives – Carolina Acosta, Sheree Massey, Aneela Paul, Beth Thompson
While the missionary receives the Divine Call, God has matched him with a wonderful teammate to carry out the ministry—his wife! You will have an opportunity to hear from a panel of missionary wives who have had broad and unique experiences in supporting their husbands’ work while carving out their own niches in their fields of labor. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and grow in appreciation of the women who may be considered “silent partners” but have a lasting impact on souls throughout the
world. Bring your tissues for wiping away tears shed over their challenges as well as their joys!
